Oyo to distribute appointment letters to 5,600 new teachers

The Oyo State Government announced that the distribution of appointment letters to 5,600 newly recruited basic school teachers in the state will commence on Monday, January 6, 2025. The distribution will occur at the Universal Basic Education office in all local government areas throughout the state.

During a meeting in Ibadan, the Chairman of the state Universal Basic Education Board, Nureni Adeniran, emphasized the importance of innovation and modern teaching techniques for the new teachers. He also reiterated the board’s stance against examination malpractices and clarified that the appointments of the new teachers are effective as of January 1st, 2025.

Adeniran highlighted the need for a fair distribution of teachers across local governments to address disparities in staffing levels. He encouraged the incoming teachers to be creative, adaptive, and forward-thinking in their approach to education, aligning with the state’s efforts to enhance basic education, especially in rural areas.

Furthermore, Adeniran mentioned that teachers categorized as People With Disabilities and those applying for carer positions should collect their appointment letters from the Board headquarters in Agodi. He also noted the government’s commitment to supporting infrastructure development in basic and junior secondary schools through a counterpart fund of N2.5 billion for UBEC/SUBEB intervention projects in 2022 and 2023.

The chairman praised Governor Seyi Makinde for approving the recruitment to address staffing shortages in the education sector, emphasizing the importance of upholding professional ethics and standards among the new teachers. He credited Makinde’s interventions for positioning Oyo State as a leader in educational initiatives.
