PANDEF urges N’Assembly to reject Fubara’s suspension

A forum representing the Niger Delta region has called on the National Assembly to oppose the imposition of a state of emergency in Rivers State, labeling it as a threat to constitutional governance and undemocratic.

In a statement released following an urgent meeting in Abuja, the forum criticized the move as an undemocratic action and urged the Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives to uphold constitutional governance.

The statement was endorsed by forum leaders, including Co-Chairmen of the Board of Trustees, the National Chairman, and the National Spokesman.

The forum urged the National Assembly to reject the imposition of emergency rule in Rivers State and defend constitutional governance.

The forum condemned the state of emergency and the ousting of elected officials in Rivers State as an attack on democracy and constitutional governance.

The forum raised concerns about the rationale behind the emergency declaration, citing previous incidents in Nigeria that did not result in such drastic measures.

Furthermore, the forum pointed out the disparities in addressing violence in different regions of the country and questioned the timing of the emergency rule in Rivers State.

The forum accused certain officials of hindering reconciliation efforts and called on the Federal Government to uphold the constitutional rights of the people of Rivers State.
