The governor of Benue State, in a ceremony on Monday, inaugurated the newly elected local government chairmen, emphasizing the importance of upholding good governance without bias.
Following the local government elections in Benue State, where the ruling party secured all seats, the opposition party raised concerns about irregularities and called for the cancellation of the election.
Governor Alia defended the integrity of the election, stating that it was fair and a true reflection of the people’s will.
Addressing the new chairmen during their swearing-in ceremony, the governor charged them with the responsibility of providing effective leadership while maintaining transparency, accountability, and honesty in their governance.
He urged the chairmen to prioritize the welfare of the people over personal gains and to collaborate with the state government to implement beneficial policies and programs for the rural communities.
Meanwhile, the opposition party alleged electoral malpractice and called for a fresh election, accusing the governor and the electoral commission of compromising the democratic process.
They emphasized the need for upholding the integrity of the electoral system and threatened legal action if their demand for a new election was not met.
