PDP, NNPP clash over Osun gov’s reelection bid

The New Nigeria Peoples Party in Osun State has declared its determination to replace Governor Ademola Adeleke in the upcoming 2026 governorship election. This announcement has sparked criticism from the Peoples Democratic Party.

The NNPP revealed its plans during the opening of its offices in Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun Local Government Areas. At the event held in Ila, Osun NNPP Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the next election due to dissatisfaction with the current administration and prevailing economic challenges.

“We are optimistic about winning Osun State in the 2026 election. The NNPP has been making significant strides since its establishment.

“The economic difficulties are tarnishing the image of the APC nationally, while the PDP government in Osun is facing challenges in governance. This creates a favorable opportunity for us to put an end to Adeleke’s leadership,” Odeyemi stated.

Accompanied by the NNPP Chairmen of Ekiti State and Ogun State, Odeyemi encouraged party members to stay resolute, promising them forthcoming success.

In response to the NNPP’s declaration, the Osun PDP rejected the assertions as mere rhetoric, affirming that Governor Adeleke’s accomplishments would ensure his reelection.

Speaking on behalf of the PDP, the Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, stated, “The claims made by the NNPP are unfounded and driven by the desire to please their backers.

“They do not possess the capability to prevent Senator Ademola Adeleke from being reelected in 2026. The people of Osun are experiencing remarkable progress under this administration, and no party can halt this forward momentum. They should conserve their resources and efforts.”
