A fire has destroyed two rooms in an eight-room residential building at Agboola Compound, Ita-Kure, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, on Saturday.
Online gathered that the incident, which occurred at about 10:33 a.m., was contained by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service, who prevented the fire from spreading to the remaining sections of the building.
Confirming the development in a statement on Saturday, the Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, said preliminary findings showed that the inferno was triggered by a power surge.

Firefighters acted swiftly after receiving the distress call, adding that their intervention saved the compound from a more devastating loss.
“The coordinated and gallant efforts of our firefighters ensured that only two rooms were affected, while the remaining rooms were fully protected,” he said.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, urged residents to prioritise electrical safety to prevent similar incidents, warning that many household fires are linked to poor wiring and substandard electrical materials.

He advised homeowners to install surge protectors and patronise certified professionals for routine checks on electrical systems.
The Director added, “Taking preventive steps significantly reduces the risk of electrical fires in residential areas. We urge residents to be vigilant and proactive.”
The service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State.
Kwara has recorded several fire outbreaks in recent weeks, many of which have been linked to electrical faults and careless handling of power appliances.
The state fire service has repeatedly appealed to residents to maintain safety standards, especially during the dry season, when fire incidents tend to increase.
