The top police authority, accompanied by his team, visited Kwara State to meet with the family of a deceased individual who passed away while in police custody. The unfortunate incident, which occurred on December 20, 2024, has sparked public outrage and calls for justice.
The deceased, a member of the Balogun Fulani community in Erubu/Asunnara, Ilorin, Kwara State, was reportedly arrested by the police on December 19, 2024, over an alleged debt. He tragically passed away the following day under police supervision.
In response to the situation, the Inspector-General of Police swiftly directed the Force Criminal Investigations Department to lead a thorough and unbiased investigation into the matter. During a heartfelt meeting with the bereaved family, the IG assured them of justice, promising a comprehensive inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A representative of the family expressed gratitude for the visit and the steps being taken to address the tragedy, emphasizing the importance of uncovering the truth and holding those responsible accountable. The Force Public Relations Officer reiterated the police’s commitment to professionalism, justice, and respect for human rights, emphasizing the zero-tolerance policy for unprofessional behavior.
The Inspector-General stressed the importance of maintaining trust between the police and the public, urging all concerned parties to remain patient and allow the legal process to unfold.
