During the recent governorship election in Ondo State, the police impounded numerous motorcycles and vehicles to ensure a smooth voting process. The enforcement of restrictions was closely monitored across the state, leading to the apprehension of violators at various checkpoints, especially in Akure. Offenders caught near ‘A’ Division in Akure had their vehicles confiscated by armed police personnel, despite providing excuses.
One individual, known as Dejo from Igoba, shared his encounter with the police after being arrested on his way back home. Even though he showed his voter’s card, his motorcycle was still impounded. Dejo mentioned that over 60 motorcycles and 10 vehicles were seized at the location.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, explained that the impounded vehicles and motorcycles belonged to individuals who disregarded the restriction order announced earlier. She emphasized that the restriction was temporary and necessary for the election process.
