Plateau electoral commission reviews 2024 LG poll, pledges improvement

The head of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission has affirmed the commission’s dedication to organizing transparent and credible elections for the upcoming Local Government polls in 2027. This assurance was given during a meeting in Jos, involving various stakeholders like political party leaders, civil society groups, and media representatives. The previous Local Government election in Plateau State took place in all 17 LGAs on October 9, 2024.

The Chairman mentioned that preparations were underway for the 2027 LG elections and emphasized the commission’s commitment to enhancing result management to uphold the integrity of the electoral process and boost voter confidence. He highlighted the importance of feedback from stakeholders to improve future operations.

During the meeting, it was acknowledged that despite challenges faced during the 2024 LG polls such as technical glitches with electronic devices, insufficient election materials, and delays in the arrival of officials, there was optimism that PLASIEC’s efforts to tackle these issues would lead to smoother elections in 2027. Stakeholders also stressed the need for cooperation from potential voters to support the commission in executing their responsibilities effectively.
