The Police Command in Kano State reported the arrest of 2,425 suspected criminals, as well as the recovery of firearms, weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen properties. The arrests were made throughout the year 2024, according to the State Police Commissioner, Salman Garba. Among the suspects apprehended were individuals involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, cattle rustling, drug dealing, human trafficking, theft, forgery, fraud, and thuggery.
The Command also rescued victims of human trafficking, kidnapping, and abduction. A significant number of weapons were seized, including AK-47 Rifles, pistols, rifles, guns, ammunition, cutlasses, and knives. Additionally, several motor vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, and counterfeit currencies were recovered.
The State faced security challenges in all its 44 LGAs, particularly along the border areas with neighboring states. Following directives from the Inspector-General of Police, strategies such as community policing, targeted operations, intelligence-led policing, collaboration with other security agencies, and public awareness campaigns were implemented to address the security situation effectively.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to community engagement, intelligence-led policing, targeted operations, and public awareness campaigns to address the evolving security needs of the state.
