Police dismiss report of shooting at Rivers PDP secretariat

The Rivers State Police Command has denied reports of a shooting incident involving rival political groups at the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat in Port Harcourt. Despite acknowledging internal tensions within the party, the police have clarified that claims of an armed clash are untrue and meant to mislead.

There were widespread reports circulating on various online platforms suggesting that supporters of opposing PDP factions were engaged in a gun duel at the party’s secretariat. However, the Rivers State Police Command, through spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, dismissed these allegations in a statement issued on Sunday, labeling them as a deliberate attempt to cause panic.

The police emphasized that no such incident was reported to or witnessed by them. They confirmed that the report was a false alarm raised by troublemakers aiming to create unnecessary tension. The command warned against spreading false information, stressing their commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order in the state.

Residents were assured of the police’s continuous vigilance and were encouraged to rely on verified sources for information, disregarding baseless rumors. The public was urged to trust in the professionalism and dedication of the police force in ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Rivers State.
