The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has successfully uncovered the bodies of marine hunters from the Ministry of Internal Security and Inland Waterways who were abducted, killed, and buried by criminals in Unyenghe, Mbo Local Government Area of the state. Authorities have apprehended suspects believed to be responsible for the heinous crime. Among those arrested was the Village Head of Utit Antai, Chief Okon Asuquo Eteokpo, who allegedly supported the perpetrators.
In a statement released by the police spokesperson, Timfon John, it was revealed that acting on a tip-off, the bodies of the hunters were unearthed from shallow graves on Thursday. The investigations led to the capture of several suspects, including Anthony Archibong, Emmanuel Emmanuel Otoyo, Daniel Edet Okon, Eniete Harry Tom, and Joseph Okon. The Village Head, Chief Okon Asuquo Eteokpo, was also taken into custody for his alleged involvement in the crime. Additionally, 15 live cartridges were seized during the operation.
The police conducted a thorough search, ultimately finding the bodies buried in shallow graves with their heads dismembered. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to combatting crime in the state and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
