The police in Cross River State held peace meetings with herders and farmers in Ikot Inyang Community, Odukpani Local Government Area, following a clash on December 3, 2024.
The spokesperson for the police command, SP Irene Ugbo, announced that the altercation occurred around 9:00 am, leading to prompt intervention by Commissioner of Police, CP Augustine Grimah.
CP Grimah deployed the Akamkpa Area Commander and Tactical Commanders to calm tensions and restore order in the community.
The police facilitated peace meetings involving key stakeholders such as clan and village heads, ward councillors, and representatives of the herdsmen.
Those present included clan and village heads: Chief Etubum Essien, Chief Pastor Essien Inang, and Chief Austin Eyamba, Esq, and Hon. Bassey Bassey.
Representatives from the herdsmen included Alhaji Bakari Sambo (Chairman), Alhaji Tukor Amadi Ali, Alhaji Gambo Abdul (Youth Leader, Nasarawa), and Musa Abdullahi. The dialogue led to significant progress and restored normalcy in the area.
CP Grimah cautioned against spreading unverified information that could incite unrest or tarnish the image of the Police Force.
He reiterated the command’s dedication to justice, peace, and the protection of lives and property in the state, advising residents to rely on official police statements for accurate updates.
