A tragic car accident occurred at the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge toll gate in Lagos, resulting in the loss of three young lives and sparking controversy regarding the police response. The incident involved two cars carrying a total of eight individuals. Reports indicate that the driver of one car, who was around 18 years old and without a driver’s license, caused the accident, leading to the death of three passengers.
The aftermath of the crash was devastating, with two individuals dying on the spot and another succumbing shortly after being rescued from the wreck. Shockingly, both drivers emerged unharmed from the wreckage while their friends perished.
Criticism arose over the police’s handling of the situation, as witnesses claimed that rather than assisting the victims, the police handcuffed the survivors upon arrival. This drew ire from onlookers, including local elders, who pleaded with the authorities to prioritize the victims’ well-being.
Despite the police statement indicating that the occupants were taken to the hospital, with three individuals pronounced dead and the driver responsible receiving medical care, questions remain about the initial response and treatment of those involved. An ongoing investigation has been assured by the Lagos State Police.
