Power surge blamed for fire on Lagos police barracks

A fire broke out early on a Tuesday morning, destroying nine rooms in a building at the Olosan Police Barracks in Mushin, Lagos State. The cause of the fire was believed to be a power surge.

The fire started around 6:49 a.m. in a room on the second floor of a two-storey building before spreading to other rooms, resulting in severe damage to properties.

The impact of the fire led to the destruction of several rooms on the affected floor, with the building and neighboring structures showing signs of distress. The roof of the building was also extensively damaged.

Scavengers were seen taking advantage of the situation to collect metal and wooden scraps from the affected building.

Occupants of the building declined to comment, citing caution from the barracks authority against discussing the incident. An eyewitness, speaking anonymously, suggested that the fire may have been caused by an electrical surge.

Fortunately, there were no casualties reported, thanks to the timely intervention of the fire service. The fire was contained after affecting nine rooms on the second floor.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services collaborating with the police to determine the source of the fire.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the absence of casualties and assured that an investigation is ongoing to uncover the root cause of the incident.

Recent similar incidents in other areas of Lagos State have also been reported, with properties and structures being destroyed in separate fire outbreaks in the Lagos Island and Okokomaiko regions.
