The son of the late winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, Chief Moshood Abiola, expressed his opinion that probing former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, over his father’s death is unnecessary.
In an interview, he mentioned that the time for such investigations has passed, as many key figures involved in the June 12 event are no longer alive.
He stated that a more suitable time for a probe would have been during the second term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo when more individuals involved were alive to provide accurate information.
He also mentioned that his book, ‘The President Who Never Ruled,’ delves into the annulment and related events for those interested in further insights.
He emphasized the importance of seeking truth rather than revenge when reading the book.
The son suggested that the best way to honor his family would be for Nigerians to embrace unity and national cohesion, as demonstrated on June 12, 1993.
He urged Nigerians to focus on transforming the country from a divided nation to a united one by rejecting tribalism and religious differences in leadership selection.
He highlighted the significance of following the call to shun ethnicity and unite Nigeria into a strong nation.
While appreciating any worldly honors for his late parents, he believes that their eternal reward surpasses any recognition on earth.
He expressed the belief that his late parents are enjoying eternal rewards while those who wronged them face consequences.
