Residents of a city in Enugu State gathered in protest over the unfortunate killing of a local Ogene musician known as Igbo-Jah by a police inspector.
The musician was fatally shot by the police inspector at the Police Anti-cult Tactical Squad headquarters during a visit, leading to outrage among the community members.
The protesters, angered by the incident, attempted to set fire to the anti-cult headquarters, resulting in a confrontation with the police who used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Roads were blocked in the state capital as the residents expressed their grievances, with some setting up bonfires and singing songs of anger.
The state Governor has initiated an investigation into the killing, offering condolences to the family of the deceased and ensuring a thorough inquiry into the matter to serve justice.
The police spokesperson confirmed the arrest of the police inspector involved in the shooting, with the Commissioner of Police ordering a comprehensive investigation to determine the appropriate actions to be taken.
