The Police Service Commission recently declared the end of special promotions within the Nigeria Police Force. The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), made this announcement during a meeting with a delegation of retired police officers. The decision aims to prioritize merit-based promotions through prescribed examinations and essential requirements. Special promotions are no longer permissible, as the Commission seeks to uphold fairness and integrity in the promotion process.
Moving forward, promotions will be solely based on merit, involving written examinations and interviews. Seniority will no longer be a determining factor. The focus is on rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional skills and competence in their duties. The Commission emphasizes the importance of upholding high standards in the police force and avoiding favoritism in promotions.
DIG Argungu highlighted the significance of support from retired police officers, valuing their experience and contributions to the new promotion approach. He expressed his commitment to upholding the integrity of the Nigeria Police Force and the Police Service Commission. The aim is to maintain a transparent and accountable promotion system that recognizes and rewards officers based on their capabilities and performance.
