Reps C’ttee slams pace of work on A’Ibom housing project

The House of Representatives Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning recently visited the Renewed Hope Estate Project in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State, expressing disappointment with the progress. The committee also raised concerns about the quality of work on the Umu Etuk-Spencer Esin slum upgrade road in Oron. Chairman of the Committee, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, criticized the contractors for their performance, suggesting that more competent hands might be necessary. The project, involving 250 housing units in Uyo, has faced delays despite partial funding. Abiante emphasized the importance of engaging skilled contractors for federal projects and called for the reconstruction of the substandard Umu Etuk-Spencer Esin road. The committee intends to summon the Minister of Urban Development and Regional Planning and the contractors for further discussions.
