The pedestrian bridge at Alapere/Estate Bus Stop on the Third Axial Road in Lagos State has been completed, as announced by the Lagos State Government. The bridge was reopened for public use by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu due to safety concerns, with a formal commissioning planned for a later date.
The Special Adviser on Infrastructure, Engineer Olufemi Daramola, emphasized the government’s priority on safety and directed the immediate opening of the bridge for public use. The decision to open the bridge was made to ensure the safety of pedestrians and commuters while awaiting the official commissioning.
The reconstruction of the bridge was necessary after it sustained damage from a container-laden truck attempting to pass under it with a load exceeding the provided headroom. The reopening of the bridge aims to reduce risks for commuters crossing the expressway.
The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, praised the governor’s swift response in reopening the bridge, highlighting the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure for the benefit of the people in Lagos State.
