SEC to crack down on investment fraud, plans capital market radio

The Securities and Exchange Commission has issued a warning to individuals and entities involved in illegal fund management activities, urging them to stop immediately to avoid legal consequences. They also announced plans to launch a capital market radio to provide information on investment opportunities to Nigerians.

The Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission emphasized the Commission’s commitment to enforcing regulations and cracking down on illegal activities in Nigeria’s investment sector. The SEC is prepared to safeguard investors, promote market confidence, and ensure good governance in public companies.

Additionally, the Commission will host the World Investor Week 2024 with a focus on “Technology and Digital Finance, Crypto Assets and Sustainable Finance.” This global initiative aims to enhance financial literacy and educate the public about investing in the Nigerian capital market.

Activities planned for the week include ceremonies, discussions, outreach programs, and clinics to educate investors on market opportunities and wealth democratization. The SEC encourages investors to understand different types of investments, risk levels, and seek advice when necessary to make informed decisions.

The SEC will utilize social media and traditional media platforms to educate the public and is working to introduce capital market studies in tertiary institutions to nurture an understanding of the market’s role in wealth creation and economic progress.
