Senator’s billboards removed in Kwara amid rivalry allegations

Billboards that were strategically placed across Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, were taken down recently. This action followed an announcement by a prominent figure of a generous donation towards the construction of a pavilion at the Emir of Ilorin’s palace. The pavilion was intended to be used during important annual meetings.

The individual responsible for the donation is known as the Turaki of Ilorin and serves as the representative for Kwara Central in the National Assembly. Initially, the billboards were installed to convey Christmas greetings to the Christian community in the state.

During the 59th Annual General Meeting of the IEDPU, the generous donation was made public by a representative of the Turaki. Other notable figures also contributed significantly towards the cause, including a chief launcher who donated a substantial amount and the Governor who pledged to complete ongoing projects.

Subsequently, some of the billboards placed at key locations were removed, sparking speculation among political observers. The incident was attributed to internal rivalries within the ruling party as preparations for future elections gained momentum.

A political analyst highlighted the underlying tensions between the governor and the senator, indicating a growing political competition within the party in Kwara State. Despite conflicting reports, the removal of the billboards was confirmed by various sources, citing reasons such as construction work in the area and non-payment of advertisement fees.

While some condemned the removal of the billboards and called for investigations and legal action against the perpetrators, others emphasized the need for peace and unity among all parties involved. The incident served as a reminder of the complex political landscape in the region.
