The President of Nigeria Community in Cote D’Ivoire, Chief Onwuchelu Emeka, raised concerns about the rise in human trafficking along the Nigeria-Cote D’Ivoire route.
During an NTA International program on human trafficking, Emeka highlighted the trafficking of Nigerian girls to Cote D’Ivoire for sexual exploitation.
He mentioned that young Nigerian girls aged between 11 and 18 are being trafficked to Cote D’Ivoire with false promises of lucrative job opportunities.
Upon arrival, these girls are stripped of their means of communication, making it difficult for them to seek help.
Emeka emphasized the need for urgent intervention by the Nigerian government to address this alarming issue through diplomatic channels.
He expressed sadness over the increasing number of trafficked girls, many of whom have perished without any means of contacting their families.
He advised parents to be cautious and not allow their children to be lured by promises of a better life abroad from individuals or groups with unknown identities.
