A recent fire incident at the Karar Yan Katako market in Sokoto State resulted in the destruction of approximately 563 shops, according to the National Emergency Management Agency. The fire burned for two days before being contained. The affected area was primarily the building materials section of the market. This unfortunate event marked the second fire incident at the market within three weeks. The shops that were impacted specialized in wood, roofing materials, pipes, and fittings.
The Sokoto State Fire Service successfully controlled the fire after a strenuous effort.
