Stakeholders canvass adequate regulation for IT sector growth

Participants of the Phillips Consulting Digital Jurist Awards highlighted the importance of well-structured regulatory and institutional frameworks to support sustainable growth in the digital ecosystem.

They emphasized that these frameworks are crucial for driving innovation and ensuring long-term development in various sectors.

The event, which took place in Lagos with the theme “Digital Transformation: Building Sustainable Platforms for the Future,” gathered industry leaders and stakeholders dedicated to enhancing digital excellence.

The Digital Jurist Awards evaluate organizations’ digital touchpoints, recognizing those that stand out in their digital transformation endeavors.

During the event, the Head of Information Technology Projects Clearance at the National Information Technology Development Agency, Dr Usman Abdullahi, stressed the crucial role of stakeholders in establishing sustainable regulatory frameworks to support the digital ecosystem.

Dr. Abdullahi highlighted the importance of consumer protection, stating, “User protection is essential for a sustainable platform.”

He called for regulations that are of high quality, strategic, accessible, and inclusive to effectively serve the global digital community.

Dr. Abdullahi also mentioned the need for flexible regulations to adapt to evolving digital trends while safeguarding users’ interests.

The CEO of Beyond Limits Africa, Dr. Juliet Ehimuan, emphasized the transformative impact of digital technology in driving sustainable growth across sectors.

She highlighted that the Digital Jurist Awards aim to recognize excellence in digital transformation.

Dr. Ehimuan further stressed the significance of building sustainable platforms that give organizations a competitive edge, emphasizing the characteristics of robust, resilient, fast, easy to navigate, scalable, continuously improving, and secure digital transformations.

The Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer at MTN Nigeria, Babalola Oyeleye, supported this perspective, emphasizing the need to integrate security considerations at the beginning of digital initiatives.

He stated, “Successful digital transformation requires collaboration to establish a secure and resilient environment for consumers and businesses.”

Access Bank Plc was acknowledged for Best Digital and Best Website in the Commercial Bank sector, while Ecobank received the award for Best Web Portal. Polaris Bank was recognized for Best Mobile App, and Zenith Bank was honored for Best Social Media.

In the fintech sector, Interswitch Limited won Best Digital, and eTranzact International Limited was awarded Best Website. Paga secured the title for Best Web Portal, while Piggyvest excelled by winning Best Mobile App and Best Social Media.
