Stop politicising stampede tragedies, APC tells PDP

The All Progressives Congress has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party for allegedly politicizing recent stampedes that resulted in loss of lives in Ibadan, Oyo State; Abuja; and Anambra during food distribution events. This condemnation was conveyed by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, in a statement issued in Abuja.

The APC’s response came after the PDP accused the government of President Bola Tinubu of contributing to the tragic incidents due to high levels of poverty and desperation. The ruling party expressed surprise at the PDP’s decision to engage in political maneuvers during a time of national mourning, calling it “callous.”

Morka pointed out that Nigerians still remember the stampede during the Nigerian Immigration Service recruitment exercise in Abuja in 2014 under the PDP’s administration, which resulted in fatalities. The APC spokesman criticized the PDP for politicizing the tragedies instead of offering genuine condolences to the victims and their families.

The APC highlighted the need for better planning and organization to prevent such incidents in the future and defended its commitment to the welfare of Nigerians. Morka emphasized that the PDP’s accusations reflect its history of mismanagement and incompetence, contrasting it with the current administration’s efforts to revive the economy through reforms.
