Suspected cult member arrested with arms in Ogun

In Onileowo community, Shagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State, a 40-year-old man named Ahmed Onanuga was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for the possession of firearms. This arrest came after Onanuga was accused of stealing items valued at N16 million. The suspect confessed to being a member of the Eiye Confraternity during the interrogation by the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.

The report filed on January 1, 2025, mentioned the theft of various items totaling N16,059,000 between August 2024 and January 2025. The complainant suspected Onanuga, a civilian security personnel at Savitec Company, leading to his arrest by a team of detectives. Upon searching Onanuga’s residence, the police recovered firearms, including an English pump action, a double barrel gun, a live cartridge, two cutlasses, one large plier, and one small knife.

Although denying the theft allegations, Onanuga admitted to his affiliation with the Eiye Confraternity. The investigation is ongoing, with plans to transfer the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta once the preliminary investigation is concluded.
