In North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, Benue State’s capital city, tragic events unfolded on Friday night as suspected cultists claimed the lives of four individuals, including a soldier. These incidents are part of a concerning trend of clashes among rival cult groups in the area over the past few weeks. Eyewitnesses revealed that the victims were not affiliated with any cult but fell prey to the violence orchestrated by the rampaging cultists.
Chairman of the Vigilante Group in North Bank, Nura Umar, confirmed the incidents, stating that separate attacks on Thursday and Friday resulted in the deaths of four people, including a soldier. Umar described the harrowing events that transpired, emphasizing that the victims were innocent individuals targeted by suspected cult members.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Catherine Anene, acknowledged the presence of cult activities in North Bank and confirmed one civilian fatality. Anene assured that additional law enforcement personnel had been dispatched to the area to address the escalating situation and ensure the safety of residents.
