Taraba to procure 10,000MT grains to tackle hunger

The government of Taraba State has disclosed its intention to purchase 10,000 metric tons of assorted grains to distribute among its residents as part of its hunger alleviation efforts. Governor Agbu Kefas made this announcement in a New Year address, revealing that 3,500 metric tons have already been acquired, with the remaining 6,500 set to be procured by the end of the first quarter.

Governor Kefas stressed the significance of peace as a cornerstone for progress, highlighting the administration’s efforts to enhance security in all 168 wards of the state. Measures include collaboration with security agencies, the expansion of the Taraba Marshall, and cooperation with traditional institutions and neighboring states to address security issues.

In the realm of education, the governor emphasized substantial investments in the future of Taraba’s youth. Initiatives such as free and compulsory education for primary and secondary levels have been implemented, with plans to further enhance school infrastructure, recruit qualified teachers, and establish modern schools in all LGAs.

Additionally, the government aims to prioritize skill acquisition programs and entrepreneurship support for youths, alongside boosting the state’s agricultural sector through the modernization of facilities, provision of advanced farm inputs, and training in innovative farming techniques.

Governor Kefas also unveiled reforms in higher education to enhance service delivery and infrastructure, including the creation of the Ministry of Tertiary Education. He underscored the commitment to transparency and citizen engagement, vowing to be accountable for every expenditure.

Encouraging unity among Tarabans for collective progress, the governor highlighted the strength that diversity brings and called for cooperation across ethnic, religious, and political boundaries to achieve shared objectives.
