Tax reforms irrelevant to Nigerians present needs, says ex-presidential candidate

The Social Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections expressed concerns about the controversy surrounding the proposed tax reforms bill in the National Assembly. He emphasized that the bill does not address the immediate needs of the people, especially during times of hunger. The candidate stressed the importance of prioritizing food security over tax reforms.

During a discussion in Ilorin, Kwara State, the candidate highlighted the necessity for government officials to be accountable to the citizens. He critiqued the lack of transparency surrounding the Tax Reforms Bill and emphasized the public’s need for proper governance and accountability.

The candidate also advocated for a review of the Nigerian constitution, emphasizing the significance of evaluating the conduct of those in power. He criticized the political class for prioritizing their interests over the welfare of the masses, highlighting the need for governance based on constitutional principles rather than party affiliations.

In discussing his party’s approach to governance, the candidate emphasized adherence to the constitution as a key factor in ensuring effective leadership. He called for a comprehensive review of the constitution to promote good governance and address the shortcomings of the existing 1999 Constitution.
