The recent restoration of bulk power supply through the Ahoada-Yenagoa 132kV transmission line has been successfully completed by the Transmission Company of Nigeria. This comes after the line was damaged by vandals three months ago.
The reconstruction of collapsed towers and the replacement of vandalized conductors were carried out by TCN contractors, leading to the energization of the line on November 30, 2024, at 08:03 pm.
A total of 20 power transmission towers were replaced as part of the restoration process. Vandals had attacked the power line in August, destroying 13 towers in various communities, which eventually affected power supply to Bayelsa State.
Following a thorough inspection of the work done, TCN engineers verified the integrity of the replaced towers and confirmed that all work met required standards, allowing for the line to be cleared for energization.
Efforts are now underway to engage with host communities to prevent future incidents of vandalism. TCN is also working on implementing a community engagement program to educate locals on the consequences of vandalism and appointing community representatives to oversee the security of power equipment.
The company emphasized the importance of collective action in safeguarding the country’s electricity assets and urged the public to support the campaign against vandalism of power infrastructure.
In another positive development, TCN has successfully energized new transformers at its Molai Transmission Substation in Borno State, which will enhance power supply to franchise areas.
The new transformers have significantly increased the substation’s capacity, allowing for a higher supply of bulk power to customers in Borno and surrounding regions. This milestone is part of TCN’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power infrastructure and meet the growing demand for electricity.
