As primary and secondary schools resume in various states, there is a sense of enthusiasm among teachers, pupils, and parents. The resumption for the second term after the holiday break includes states like Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Delta, and Jigawa. The Kano State Government announced specific resumption dates for boarding and day school students to ensure a smooth return to classes.
Disciplinary actions are threatened against students who fail to resume on time, emphasizing the importance of punctuality. In Delta State, a directive for both public and private schools to resume has been issued, with a focus on enhancing the standard of education. Monitoring teams led by education officials will ensure compliance with the directive and tackle issues like absenteeism.
Jigawa State has also set a resumption date for schools, with assurances from the Commissioner for Higher Education, Science, and Technology regarding teaching aids to enhance learning. The Federal Government has adjusted the resumption date for unity schools due to ongoing renovation works, shifting it to January 12.
As schools gear up to reopen, collaboration between schools, parents, and students is highlighted as crucial for a successful academic year. The importance of parental involvement and a strong home-school partnership is emphasized to support student progress. Concerns have been raised by parents regarding the rising costs associated with the new term, impacting budgeting for tuition, transportation, and other expenses.
State governments are urging all stakeholders to take intentional steps to ensure a seamless transition back to academic routines for the second term of the 2024/2025 academic year.
