Authorities at the Kemta Divisional Police in Ogun State sounded an alert on Tuesday following the discovery of the swollen body of a 45-year-old tenant, Tolulope Olusanya, late Monday night.
There were suspicions of a possible suicide as the stench from the body was pervasive in the residence, triggering concerns among residents. The landlord, Adebesin Adebayo, raised the alarm when Olusanya was absent from Shittu Street, Madojutimi Abiola Way, Abeokuta.
Upon notification, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed the incident, revealing that Adebayo reported to the Kemta Divisional Police station on Monday evening. Worried by the foul smell emanating from Olusanya’s apartment, Adebayo sought assistance.
Police detectives arrived at the scene and found the apartment locked with a strong odor lingering. Upon breaking in, they discovered Olusanya’s swollen body on the bed, indicating a considerable time since her passing.
Efforts to move the body to a hospital were hindered by a lack of necessary medical equipment. Despite unsuccessful attempts to reach Olusanya’s family, the police secured the scene for further investigation.
In a separate incident on November 27, 2024, a man named Fatai Hamzat was found dead in a similar manner in his apartment in Abeokuta, Ogun State. His body was discovered by a concerned neighbor after unanswered calls led to the grim discovery of Hamzat hanging from a rope tied to a ceiling fan.
