Armed police officers were deployed to various local government secretariats in Osun State following a Court of Appeal ruling in Akure. The ruling upheld appeals by the chairman elected under the All Progressives Congress in the recent local government elections. These officials had been previously removed by a Federal High Court judge but were reinstated by the Appeal Court decision. Despite some disagreements over the interpretation of the judgment, the state government clarified that the ruling did not reinstate the removed officials.
Police presence was observed at several secretariats, with officers stationed at entrances and checking individuals entering the premises. The security measure was taken to prevent any potential threats to public peace and ensure the safety of residents and property. The Osun Police Command confirmed the deployment, emphasizing the need to maintain law and order in light of the Appeal Court verdict.
The state Attorney General further clarified that the Appeal Court ruling did not mandate the reinstatement of the dismissed chairmen. The court’s decision was based on procedural grounds and did not address the reinstatement of any officials to their positions.
