In the last 24 hours, reports indicate that three individuals lost their lives and over a dozen were injured in Russian attacks on regions in southern and eastern Ukraine. The ongoing conflict, now in its third year, has seen heightened tensions recently, with Moscow targeting Ukrainian energy facilities and issuing threats to hit Kyiv with its advanced hypersonic missile.
In Donetsk, located in the eastern region, two fatalities and several injuries were reported due to Russian bombardment. Governor Vadym Filashkin shared on Telegram that in a single day, there were nine attacks by Russians on Donetsk settlements, resulting in casualties and the evacuation of hundreds, including children.
Further south, in the Kherson region, one person was killed, and multiple others were wounded following Russian shelling that began on Monday. Similarly, in the northeast Kharkiv region, ten individuals were injured in Russian attacks, as confirmed by regional governor Oleg Synegubov.
Recent advancements by Moscow along the eastern frontline have showcased their military dominance over Ukrainian forces. The Russian defense ministry announced the capture of Zhovte village near Kyiv’s supply hub of Pokrovsk.
With the upcoming transition in the United States presidency, both sides are maneuvering to strengthen their negotiating positions. President-elect Donald Trump’s statements claiming a swift resolution to the conflict upon assuming office have raised concerns in Ukraine about potential territorial compromises for peace.
Trump’s recent call for an immediate ceasefire and claims of President Zelensky’s willingness to negotiate have been met with gratitude by the Ukrainian leader, who considers ending the war as a top priority.
