In the Isiodum community of Andoni Local Government Area in Rivers State, a suspected cholera outbreak has led to the unfortunate deaths of three individuals. The incident came to light during a visit by a team from a multinational oil company to inspect a water rehabilitation project in the area.
Former Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Dr. Gogo-Ogute Isaiah, who was present with the oil company working on the project, confirmed the tragedy. Two of the deceased were from the same compound in Isiodum, where they experienced severe symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea before passing away on different days.
The situation escalated further with the death of a third person. Efforts are being made to assist others affected by the disease. The local community is facing challenges in accessing adequate medical care, adding to the urgency of the situation.
Authorities are being notified, with the State Commissioner for Health’s media aide, Ednah Alete, awaiting a formal report. The process of confirming the outbreak involves sending a team to the community for sample collection and further investigation.
