A group of suspected political thugs reportedly took control of the Oredo Local Government Area secretariat in Edo State, preventing the Chairman, Tom Obaseki, from accessing his office. The thugs, armed with weapons, positioned themselves strategically at the secretariat, chanting aggressive slogans. This situation led to the council boss having to retreat for the day. Obaseki expressed his concerns to reporters outside the council premises, emphasizing his intent to carry out his duties as the elected chairman. The chairman mentioned the need for security agencies to intervene and restore order, highlighting the importance of a restraining order. This incident occurred after the Edo State High Court ruled in favor of Obaseki and 17 other council chairmen, nullifying their suspension. The suspensions had been imposed by the Edo State House of Assembly following allegations of insubordination and misconduct by Governor Monday Okpebholo.
