Tinubu approves Maiduguri airport upgrade to international status

President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the Maiduguri Airport in Borno State to be upgraded to international status. The announcement was made by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communications, Sunday Dare. This decision signifies the establishment of an international airport in each of the country’s six geopolitical zones. Nigeria’s international airports play a crucial role in facilitating travel, trade, and tourism. Some of the main ones include Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Port Harcourt International Airport, Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, and Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. These airports cater to both passenger and cargo flights, with Murtala Muhammed International Airport being the busiest and serving as the primary hub for international air traffic. In addition to the airport upgrade, the African Aviation and Aerospace University in Abuja has officially commenced operations. This specialized institution aims to enhance aviation and aerospace education, positioning Nigeria as a leading player in the sector within Africa.
