Tinubu approves new federal varsities for Osun, Ekiti

President Bola Tinubu has recently approved the establishment of two new federal universities in Nigeria. The Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences will be located in Iyin Ekiti, while the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies will be in Iragbiji, Osun State. The bills for these universities were passed by the Senate, sponsored by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, and received final approval from the presidency.

The focus of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti will be on technology-driven education and research, aiming to produce graduates with skills in engineering, digital innovation, and applied sciences. Additionally, it will concentrate on environmental sciences to address climate change, renewable energy, and sustainable urban development.

On the other hand, the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji will specialize in agricultural research and innovation to enhance food security and sustainable agricultural practices. It will focus on developing farming techniques, agro-processing methods, and climate-smart agriculture solutions to boost productivity and resilience while integrating agricultural sciences with development studies to address socioeconomic challenges in rural areas.

The establishment of these universities marks a significant milestone in addressing environmental technology, food security, and agricultural innovation in Nigeria. Senator Opeyemi Bamidele praised the decision, emphasizing the crucial role these universities will play in the country’s growth and development.
