President Tinubu is scheduled to depart for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to participate in the 19th meeting of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. The summit will take place from November 18 to November 19, 2024. His attendance is at the invitation of the Brazilian President and current G20 President, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. The theme of this year’s meeting is ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’ where discussions will focus on various global issues such as hunger and poverty, global governance reform, sustainable development, and energy transition.
During the summit, leaders from the top 20 economies along with representatives from the European Union, African Union, and other financial institutions will convene. President Tinubu is expected to engage in bilateral meetings to further Nigeria’s socio-economic reforms. He will be accompanied by a delegation of government officials including the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministers of various portfolios, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency. President Tinubu’s visit to Brazil marks his first official visit to the country and his 31st foreign trip since taking office 17 months ago.
Throughout his presidency, President Tinubu has embarked on various international visits to countries such as Equatorial Guinea, the United Kingdom, Kenya, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, Germany, and Qatar. Upon the conclusion of the summit, President Tinubu will return to Nigeria.
