Tinubu’s wife empowers 250 Anambra elderly with N200,000 each

In a recent event at the Women Development Centre in Awka, a philanthropic initiative led by a notable public figure aimed to support elderly citizens in Anambra State. The initiative, known as the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, provided N200,000 each to 250 elderly men and women from different local government areas in the state. The distribution of funds and other essential items was overseen by the governor’s wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo.

During her address to the beneficiaries, Soludo highlighted the significance of the program, emphasizing the theme of ‘Total wellness: Happy, healthy and prosperous lifestyle.’ This initiative is part of a broader effort to support elderly citizens aged 65 and above across all states in Nigeria annually. Additionally, the program extends its reach to include beneficiaries from the federal capital territory and veterans from Defense and Police Officers’ Wives Association.

The event also featured a message from Nigeria’s First Lady, urging the elderly citizens to prioritize their health by consuming natural foods and vegetables while avoiding processed and canned foods for their well-being. The First Lady’s generosity made it possible to increase the grant from N100,000 to N200,000 this year, totaling N1.9 billion to be disbursed nationwide.

In addition to the financial support, beneficiaries received practical items such as wrappers, vegetable cooking oil, and wellness packages. The program’s coordinators in various states have also been empowered to provide free medical check-ups and other essential services to ensure the well-being of the elderly citizens during the festive season. The initiative aims to promote a healthy and prosperous lifestyle for the elderly, encouraging them to prioritize their health, stay active, and cherish moments with loved ones.
