In the past week, the Nigerian Armed Forces have recorded significant successes in their operations against terrorism. Over 140 terrorists have been eliminated, while 135 suspects have been apprehended across the country.
Notable among those arrested were prominent figures associated with the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). One of the arrests included a founding member of the group, Pius Iguh, in Orsu Local Government Area of Imo State. Another arrest was that of an IPOB commander named Emmanuel Onwugu in Mbano Local Government Area of Abia State.
The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, disclosed these achievements during a press briefing in Abuja. He highlighted the successful operations in the South East region, where key IPOB figures were captured. Additionally, a notorious cult leader named Ifeanyi Rock was arrested along with his associates in Arochukwu, Abia State.
Furthermore, the military efforts resulted in the neutralization of 140 terrorists, the rescue of 76 kidnapped individuals, and the arrest of 135 suspects. Additionally, 18 suspected oil thieves were apprehended, and stolen crude oil worth N1.7 billion was recovered.
The operations also led to the confiscation of various weapons and ammunition. A total of 241 weapons and 3,254 rounds of ammunition were seized, including AK47 rifles, FN rifles, Dane guns, pump-action guns, pistols, and ammunition of different calibers. Various other items used in criminal activities were also confiscated during the operations.
