Two individuals, identified as Garba Audu and Kabiru Abubakar from Laying Arfa, Gombe, were apprehended for trying to buy bags of beans using fake currency.
The victim, Idris Usman, narrated that the suspects stopped him on his way to Lariski market and agreed to purchase two bags of beans for N210,000. When Usman realized the money was fake, he raised an alarm, leading to the suspects’ arrest.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Gombe State Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, paraded the suspects on Tuesday and mentioned that they confessed to the crime during questioning. They claimed to have received the counterfeit money from someone named Abdullahi, also known as “Manci,” from Yobe State who is currently on the run.
“The suspects were apprehended, and upon searching their vehicle, two bags of beans and N39,000 suspected to be counterfeit were found,” ASP Abdullahi revealed.
ASP Abdullahi assured that after the investigation, the suspects would be prosecuted. He also thanked the public for their assistance in providing vital information that led to the suspects’ arrest.
“We commend the community for their alertness and quick response in this case,” he added.
