Students at a university in Oyo State held a peaceful demonstration on Friday to protest against the recent increase in tuition fees imposed by the school’s management.
During the protest, the students carried placards with messages expressing their discontent, such as “No to Tuition Fee Hikes” and “Management’s Insensitivity to Our Situation,” while blocking the campus entrance and causing inconvenience to others.
The students highlighted the financial burden of the fee hikes, given the current economic challenges faced by many families in the country.
The decision to raise fees was approved by the university’s governing council, prompting the students to declare a halt to academic activities until the management reconsiders the increase.
An anonymous student from the Department of Human Nutrition revealed that fees had almost tripled from the previous session, causing distress among students.
Similarly, a student from the Department of Animal Science disclosed that fees in their department had also significantly increased, leading to widespread discontent and disruption of classes.
