Bruno Fernandes, the midfielder for Manchester United, received his first red card in 242 appearances for the club on Sunday.
Fernandes was sent off after making contact with James Maddison’s shin in the 42nd minute while United was trailing 1-0 due to Brennan Johnson’s goal.
During the game, the Premier League Match Centre confirmed via tweet that VAR reviewed the red card.
The tweet stated: “The referee gave Fernandes a red card for the challenge on Maddison. VAR checked and upheld the decision for serious foul play.”
