US deports 135 migrants to Costa Rica

A group of migrants, including 65 minors, was deported from the United States to Costa Rica. The deportees arrived at a base near Juan Santamaria International Airport after departing from San Diego, California. They were then taken by bus to a migrant facility close to the border with Panama for repatriation to their respective countries. Costa Rica’s deputy interior minister mentioned that the minors were accompanied by a relative and none had a criminal record. The migrants were from various countries such as Afghanistan, China, Iran, Russia, Armenia, Georgia, Vietnam, Jordan, Kazakhstan, and Ghana.

Costa Rica, Panama, and Guatemala have agreed to receive migrants expelled by the United States and keep them until they can be sent back to their home countries or other host nations. In a similar instance, a group of 299 deported migrants landed in Panama, with around 100 of them being transferred to a refugee camp in the jungle province of Darien.
