Renovation work has commenced at the Concorde Hotel in Owerri by the Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, as part of efforts to revitalize neglected state properties.
The 245-room luxury hotel, once a symbol of pride for Imo State and the entire South-East region, had deteriorated over time.
The governor aims to restore the hotel’s former glory and upgrade its facilities to align with modern hospitality standards. This enhancement is intended to promote tourism and generate employment opportunities for residents of Imo.
Upon completion, the refurbished hotel is anticipated to attract more visitors and business travelers to the state, fostering the growth of local enterprises and the Imo economy.
The ongoing project is already providing job opportunities in the construction sector, with further employment prospects expected in the hospitality and tourism industry once the hotel reopens.
The local community in Imo State has expressed satisfaction with the renovation efforts. A resident, Jonathan Amadi, mentioned, “The neglected state of Concorde Hotel was a source of embarrassment for us. We are pleased that the governor is addressing it.”
Another resident, Ebere Uzoh, praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for choosing to renovate rather than sell off the hotel, stating, “We are appreciative and grateful for his decision.”
It is believed that the revamped Concorde Hotel will contribute to positioning Imo State as a prominent tourist destination in Nigeria.
