Valencia, CSKA eye Onyeka

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka is rumored to be considering a transfer as the summer transfer window nears its end, with interest from clubs like Valencia and CSKA Moscow, according to reports.

Onyeka, who plays for Brentford, has found it challenging to secure a regular spot in the team since moving to the English Premier League.

During the previous season, the 26-year-old featured in 26 matches for Brentford, starting only 11 of them and coming on as a substitute in 15 games, accumulating a total of 1,153 minutes out of a possible 2,340 minutes.

Having impressed at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, where he played a significant role in Nigeria’s second-place finish, Onyeka has struggled to maintain his form upon returning to his club.

Despite attracting attention from various European clubs after his AFCON performance, Onyeka has seen limited playing time at Brentford, making just one substitute appearance in their early league matches against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

This situation has prompted Onyeka to look for a move away from the club, with reports suggesting interest from Valencia and other clubs in securing a loan deal for the midfielder.

News outlets have indicated that Onyeka is keen to depart Brentford, especially if it means joining Spanish clubs like Valencia on loan before the transfer deadline.

Valencia, Valladolid, and Las Palmas are reportedly among the clubs interested in Onyeka, but they may only be able to afford a season-long loan deal and would require assistance in covering a portion of his wages.

Additionally, Italian club Lecce and Russian giants CSKA Moscow have also reportedly made loan offers for Onyeka in recent months.

Onyeka has been included in Nigeria’s squad of 23 players for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.

He will be aiming to continue his impressive form with the Super Eagles as they take on both opponents in September.
