Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbo socio-cultural organization, refuted claims of urging the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara of Rivers State. The organization clarified that it had no stance on the political situation in the state and disclaimed the report as not originating from them.
A faction within the group did call for the impeachment of Governor Fubara following the Supreme Court’s decision to reinstate the pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers, including Speaker Amaewhule. The statement advocating for impeachment was attributed to the factional Deputy President-General and the National Publicity Secretary.
However, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, emphasized that the organization had not issued any statements regarding Fubara’s impeachment. Chukwu urged caution when receiving information and emphasized the importance of verifying sources before drawing conclusions.
