Two key players, Ahmed Musa and midfielder Sheu Abdullahi, were absent from the recent Nigeria Premier Football League northwest derby between Kano Pillars and Katsina United. Musa had a knock, while Abdullahi missed the game due to family reasons, according to Pillars coach Usman Abdallah.
Despite their absence, Kano Pillars secured a 1-0 victory over Katsina United, showcasing the depth of their squad. Along with Musa and Abdullahi, the team was also without veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali, Adams Aminu, and Abiam Nelson, who were away with the home-based Eagles camp.
Abdallah mentioned, “Ahmed Musa had a knock and needed rest as per the doctor’s advice. Sheu had family commitments in Sokoto.” In the absence of these key players, younger members of the team stepped up to the challenge, impressing the coach.
Abdallah highlighted the positive impact of giving debutants a chance to shine in such a crucial match, emphasizing that it showcased the future potential of Kano Pillars. The team’s performance in the derby was commendable despite missing some key players.
Currently placed seventh in the NPFL, Kano Pillars are gearing up for their upcoming match against 3SC in Ibadan on Sunday.
