Why police invited NLC president, secretary again – Falana

Clarifications have surfaced regarding the re-invitation of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Secretary General by the Nigeria Police Force. Initially summoned over serious allegations, a subsequent letter from the police outlined the new reasons for their continued investigation.

The updated invitation, dated August 28, 2024, specified that the ongoing probe pertains to accusations of criminal intimidation, property damage, and behavior that could incite public unrest.

The letter instructed the individuals to appear for an interview at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja. Despite attending the first summons with legal representation, it was revealed that the latest request stemmed from a complaint filed by a private company, unrelated to the initial terrorism financing claims.

According to sources close to the situation, the terrorism financing aspect has been resolved, and the new invitation was prompted by the company’s grievance regarding disruptions during a worker picketing incident.

Acknowledging the situation, the NLC legal representative, Falana, confirmed the nature of the fresh complaints against the NLC leadership, focusing on acts of intimidation, property damage, and potential breach of peace.
